THE NIGERIAN IMMIGRATION SERVICE INTERVIEW- Where is the Love?

Image
Bruno is an unemployed Nigerian who had participated in the Nigerian Immigration Service interview which was conducted on Saturday the 15 th of March 2014 and which resulted in the death of innocent Nigerians. This is his detailed narration of the events of that faithful day : I had to be there to witness it for myself. How could I miss such an opportunity for anything in the world? I woke up very early, dressed up and headed for the Abuja stadium. It was 7 O’clock Am when I got there. The moment I got down from the car, the first words I uttered were OMG! The crowd was unbelievable. The whole ground was covered with young people all dressed in white. I could bet that some people actually slept at that stadium the previous night. The crowd reminded me of the finals of the FIFA under 17 world cup of 2009. That day I had prayed fervently for the stadium not to collapse under the weight of patriotic Nigerians who had come to cheer the Eagles to victory.

PARK AND PAY...

Naija sef. Sometimes, I just laugh at this country and we, the citizens. Nigeria is generally known and accepted as a country where “ anything goes ”, a country where the citizens just sit back and accept any policy thrown at them, a country filled with very Religious people who wait on God to come and do almost everything for them . I am not saying we should not trust in God. All I am saying is that most of us sleep on our rights a lot all in the name of religion , while some go about killing poor people like them also in the name of religion. Instead of doing things right and getting positive results. Anyway, I won’t derail. If you are a resident of the FCT, then this is not news to you. In fact it is an old gist. However, like every old wound, the scar still runs deep and sometimes reminds us of the pain. Sometimes, the wound remains fresh and even though it is old, it keeps causing untold pain and hardship. It was a week day and like every weekday, I had been wor

Abuja Big Boy...

We watched the ball soar past the goal keeper and through the mock post. Maggie screamed out with disgust and covered her face as Tunde kicked dust into the air in exasperation. I laughed at his display. That was the first time I met Maggie’s “Abuja big boy”. “He is the worst goalkeeper in the world;”Maggie lamented as the blue team hugged happily. “I wish I can go home and get out of my suit. Coming to stand by the sidelines to encourage Tunde every Friday after work is becoming a nerve racking ritual. The man is a pain in all the wrong and right places.” I stared at my friend and could not believe my ears. “Maggie you hate the guy, so quietly get out of his life.” “Haba Nikky, this guy is rich and he is going to buy me a house in this town oh.   Just that he invested all his money and his cargo is yet to arrive. His dad, an Ambassador, will help him out with some cash while we wait for his goods to arrive. I am sitting tight my dear. No girl will come and chop w

I weep For My Country (Fresh attack on students in Yobe State)

Image
I was miserable when I heard the news of the attack on and massacre of the students of Federal Government College Buni-Yadi in Yobe State in the early hours of this morning while they were sleeping in their hostels.  29 children or more! I screamed with utter disbelief. Even animals deserve better. Many thoughts raced through my mind as I tried to resist the urge to weep for my country. Why would young men invade a secondary school just to slaughter innocent, young children?  What offense did these harmless children commit?  What are our leaders doing about these indiscriminate killings?  Where were the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Army JTF and other security agencies?  Why would our security agencies and agents guard only first class citizens and not our schools, offices, markets, homes?  Are we still safe in this country?  Are some people more Nigerian than others?  Why are the decent citizens of this nation suffering unjustly?     When will our

THE INTERNET AND ME...

Image
MY INSPIRATION FOR THIS ARTICLE? THE RECENT PURCHASE OF WHATSAPP BY FACEBOOK Before the advent of mobile phones, digital cameras and internet data plans, most Nigerians were very reluctant to release their personal details, information or picture s to anybody not closely related to them. In fact, I can still recall that giving a stranger your personal details was almost a taboo, forgetting your picture with a displeased lover was a bad omen and the reason behind strings of ill luck. Ladies only sent their pictures to prospective husbands and in the event of the relationship failing irredeemably, the couple ensured that they recovered their pictures and personal items from each other. Those days are however, gone and I do not know whether to say sadly or gladly. With the advent of the internet and the mobile phone s , Nigerians broke out from the shackles of being very security conscious or overly secretive and embraced the world of the World Wide Web . We delved into

THE STORY OF PETE AND EMILIA WILL DEFINITELY SEND CHILLS DOWN YOUR SPINE. SIT BACK AND ENJOY IT ********** “Nikky he proposed!” “OMG!” I screamed and hugged Emilia tightly. She happily raised her left hand and showed off the glittering and expensive engagement ring. “Girl we are celebrating this and it’s my treat!” I said with finality. Emilia managed to sneak out of the hospital and we had a grand celebration.   Pete and Emilia had met at the hospital. He was involved in a ghastly motor accident and Emilia was the only doctor on call when they rushed him to the small clinic. She had saved his life. Pete became fond of his doctor and their friendship grew stronger. After Pete was discharged, their love extended beyond the hospital walls. Emilia had peace with Pete unlike her previous turbulent relationships. Pete was crazy about his girl. Their love for each other was made in heaven or so we thought.

Not A Dream (The Revelation)

“What do you think? Our men are well trained and taken care of. We are ready for action.” Bola continued her tutorials after our tour. “Why did you bring me here?” My voice sounded hoarse and strange. My eyes flashed with indignation and I saw the smile fade from Bola’s face. She stared at me with a subtle hostility and I felt my fears dissipate. We were alone behind one of the numerous thatched huts strewn all over the massive ground. Tall trees and a huge hill obscured and shielded them from sight. Fierce looking young men with automatic rifles guarded the main gates. A dozen men who appeared to be soldiers were being trained in the open and they hardly noticed us during the tour.I stared at the red and black flag flapping on a pole behind her and it suddenly dawned on me that I was in a rebel camp. “What is this place? Bola, are you out of your mind? This is a criminal offense! You are training terrorists for heaven’s sake!” “Calm down Nikky. It’s not what

YOUR VALENTINE...

Image
St Valentine’s Day, Valentine’s Day or better still; Lovers day is observed on the 14 th of every year. Although his history is a bit shrouded in myth and facts, most scholars believe that St. Valentine was a Catholic priest who was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and ministering to Christians persecuted under the Roman Empire. While in Prison, he healed Julia, the blind daughter of his jailer. Before his execution, he wrote her a letter and as a farewell, he signed it; “Your Valentine.” He was martyred for refusing to renounce his religion and his sacrifice for love. The celebration of St. Valentine did not have any romantic connotation until the 14 th century when Geoffrey Chaucer composed a poem for the engagement between England’s Richard II and Anne of Bohemia. Today, it is popularly referred to as “Lovers day” and is celebrated in many countries as an occasion for lovers to express love to each other through presenta

All About Love (Lindy's Story)

Image
Lindy's story made my day. I hope you are touched as well... "When I look at him, I have a broad smile on my face and peace in my heart because he is the best part of my life. The best thing to have happened to me. Having him by my side makes trials of life feel like a bed of roses" I met my heartthrob during my National Youth Service Corps. I was posted to a remote village in the middle-belt region. While I served, all I could think of was how I needed God to make time fly, literally fly. Mid way into service, I met this tall, dark and handsome young man, TDH as the ladies would say. He had the most amusing dress sense I had ever come across. It was love at first sight, I must say. However, after 24hrs with him, every single excitement or feeling I thought I had, became as dead as a doornail. They don't tell us in the movies that love at first sight does not last for too long. He acted like he knew everything. Acted like "little Mr Per

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE..(Okey's Story)

My Name is Okey. I am an Architect and like I informed you yesterday, on the 14 th of this year 2014, I shall propose to my girlfriend of one year and friend of many years. I love your stories and since it’s the love season, I want to share my story with you. “See fine girls.” My kid brother whispered in my ear. It was a Sunday and service was about to start. I followed his gaze and saw two very beautiful and gorgeously dressed ladies headed towards us. They took up the vacant chairs beside ours. My kid brother sat up and smiled at them. They gave him a distasteful look and turned away. “Aint we in luck? God just answered my prayers.” He whispered again. We? I thought and decided to focus on the reverend and God all through the service. No beautiful Nigerian lady would have time for a jobless fellow like me. To me, talking to a lady was a crime and getting married was a dream that would never come true. So I thought until I bumped into Tina. She came into my li

All About Love ( Diana's story)

Image
Concluding Part of Diana's Story...     This could not be happening ! Diana thought as she placed her phone beside her leather bag on the passenger's seat . Her career was in jeopardy! She was already ten minutes late for her meeting with the company’s major client all because a careless driver decided to park his car right behind her car. Being late for appointments was alien to her and for the first time since she resumed with the new multinational company, she had to call her clients to extend the time of the meeting. She stared at the guards who was beside her car with displeasure. They were obviously helpless and reluctant. After some minutes of dragging their feet, one of them mustered up courage went off to get the owner of the car . That was five minutes ago, she thought irately while staring at her wrist watch. Hissing impatiently , Diana got down from her car and turned towards the second security guard...
