2023 Nigerian Presidential Election: United We Stand

Image
Recently, I met a Cameroonian and the first question he asked after the introduction that I am a Nigerian was, " are you from Anambra? " Lol!  I was curious and since I had some minutes to spare, I fired questions at him in my bid to get to the root of his initial question. As expected, it paved the way for a conversation about the forthcoming Nigerian presidential election.  As we navigated the delicate waters of the Nigerian politics, I realized that this my African brother was truly in tune with the intricacies of the Naija Political arena. The finesse with which he dissected the complicated and interesting history of our political modulations, the Bakassi peninsula issues and the current presidential candidates of the different political parties with verifiable facts and figures, left me fascinated and humbled.

On the News - Lady Kills her Lookalike

Image
I simply must tag this the dumbest homicide of the year. So, this young lady living in Ingolstadt, Germany decided, "hey I want to pass myself off as dead and I need someone who looks like me to die in my place so my family and the world would think I am dead..." So she probably thought that we were all still living in the 1700s or a part of the world where autopsies, fingerprints or DNA tests were still fairy tales. Ignorantly or should I say, lost in her highness, she goes hunting on social media for a lookalike and oh my...the stress of going through several pictures of ladies but hey, her boyfriend joins in the search and the team takes it up as a job. They searched and screened candidates on Instagram till finally, they found her lookalike....tada!!!

HushPuppies in High Places

Image
Not supporting Hushpuppi or any kind of crime by this article. However, when i read about his arrest, several questions crossed my mind: Is this a case of a son learning from his elders?  Are the Young ones getting better at this looting game that has been played and perfected by our leaders over the years?😏  What would have been his fate if he were a Naija politician and focused more on looting our collective wealth (oil money) and lodging same in banks abroad?  Is this a case of the young ones not being able to compete with the elders in the scramble for oil money, so they are diversifying and looting foreign currencies?

Kobe Bryant ...A Very Dark Sunday

Image
I was really sad when I heard the devastating news on Sunday. Kobe and Gianna's death felt like when the world lost MJ. Your heart just gets shattered. Yes, I know this is not a time to rationalize or motivate. I know the pain you must be feeling right now. Infact you might be among those who feel; "why is she writing about him? Is he a Nigerian?" Whatever your view is, my only wish is that  you learn from this article.

Joke of the day

Barely six months after the rib-tickler by our beloved minister of Labour and Employment, another witty statement attributed to another minister has left us all reeling with laughter.

Onitsha Bleeds

Image
Onitsha burnt We watched; helpless with fear, with rage! Oh that fire! It was a glimpse of hell Disconsolate, we wailed to the high heavens Years of hard labor, souls of the innocent; all went up in flames. Loved ones forever lost. Our hearts bled. But it was Lagos,

Nigeria Mourns

Image
We are deeply saddened by the sudden and shocking demise of beloved friends and loved ones especially the little children whose dreams were cut short by the recent tragedy at Ita Faji on the Lagos Island. Indeed, no one can be prepared for the loss of a loved one, but your passing is more painful because it could have been avoided. Nigeria mourns you. Our collective hearts are heavy with sorrow. As you all depart for heaven, we pray that fond memories of you all will comfort your families and that God would heal their pains and give them the strength to bear the grief of your sudden demise. Adieu Compatriots and may God grant you eternal rest.

Abia State - The Broken Giant

“Human rights cannot be secured in a degraded or polluted environment. The fundamental right to life is threatened by soil degradation and deforestation and by exposures to toxic chemicals, hazardous wastes and contaminated drinking water…” Klaus Toepfer, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme at the 57th Session of the Commission on Human Rights in 2001 We need not be told that as human beings we depend on our environment for survival. As such, our environmental condition determines how long we will live to enjoy our basic rights as humans.  Refuse disposal is a major challenge being faced by Nigeria. Ineffective waste management measures, improper waste disposal such as indiscriminate dumping of household and industrial waste and non- recycling of recyclable objects do not only pose an enormous threat to our environment but exposes us to health hazards which shortens the life of citizens of this nation.  These refuse dumps gracing our streets a

Independence day... Our Anniversary, Our Tale

Image
As she waited patiently for the most awaited moment of the event, memories from the past beguiled her happy mind. Memories of a handsome and intelligent young man who fell in love with a girl who was fed up with falling in and out of love. As expected, she had resisted and fought against all Harris had to offer. She had tagged him; a loose cannon, a player and a man she would never consider. His persistence, consistency and adorably kind heart finally swept her off her feet. At last, she gave up the battle, embraced his sincerity and accepted to spend eternity with the dark man with the moon in his eyes. A decision she would never regret. Her mind went to the gossips, forecast of doom and ploys by some friends to tear them apart. Accepting Harris felt like being at war with everyone. Most of their friends desperately wanted their vile forecast to be real; "Stor y!! Na today? She has trust issues and he will definitely cheat on her...no be Naija man again!! " His fri

Is This Our Nigeria?

Image
Click on  Our Nigeria  to resume... A t this point I think I should mention that this article is absolutely not aimed at igniting immured emotions. It is not even about the havoc the war wrecked on Nigerians and the Eastern Region in particular, the dashed dreams, the alleged genocide and massacre of innocent souls or the non-prosecution of those involved due to their caliber in the society.  It is neither about the brazen pillaging of our collective wealth by several politicians in different guises, the overwhelming statistics of unfulfilled and abandoned political promises, the importunate betrayal and rapacious greed of most government officials; the approval and implementation of unworkable and fraudulent political and economic policies; nor is it about the resultant recession, the flagrant display of embezzled funds which impelled the get rich quick or die trying trend ravaging our nation today and in turn led to the recourse to criminality by most of our young leaders o

Our Nigeria...

Image
Lately, I have been conducting several researches. Don’t worry I won’t bore you with gist of the women's fashion world and trending designer shoes... LOL! Well, let’s just say that the history classes I found boring back in my secondary school days are beginning to be delightful. Please, do not ask me HOW IT HAPPENED because I do not have a substantial explanation. Out of the blues, Pre-Nigerian Civil War era has not only captured my attention, but has held me captivated.   My research revealed detailed figures and records which I will not burden you with.  However, all you need to know is that Nigeria was once a major exporter of major minerals like tin, Columbite, Coal, Timber and various Agricultural products. Nigeria was ranked as a promising economy. Our coal mines were extracting coals regularly; mining of various minerals were stable. While our timber was among the best and most sought after in the world various Agricultural products like cocoa, groundnu

Can Super Eagles be Super again?

Image
dailypost.ng I am not a die hard football fan, I watch selected matches of my favorite clubs. But, a s a Nigerian, I love watching the Eagles play at major tournaments.  My patriotism was birthed in 1989 when as a little girl, I witnessed the wave of ecstasy that flooded our streets when the fantastic   Nduka Ugbade completed a remarkable comeback for Nigeria in the match between Nigeria and Soviet Union. I was too tender to appreciate the intricacies of the game, but the Chorus of GOAL and the ensuing victory songs that rang out in our neighborhood when the men in green kicked a round - rolling object into the net brought joy to my very young heart. It was the first time I ever witnessed such jubilation and joy. Many years later I got to understand what happened on that glorous day. The tale of how the  Flying Eagles were 4-0 down  at the quarter final of the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship in Saudi Arabia but miraculously equalized 4-4 before full time and went ahead t

That Bank and I

Phone ringing Customer care: Good morning madam Bola: How may I help you? Customer Care: We have noticed that you have an old inactive account with our bank what would you like to do with it? Bola: I have a new active account with your bank and I mandated my branch to close the old one. Customer care: Okay ma. Kindly visit our nearest branch and mandate them to close the inactive account. Next day, she went to the nearest branch. A mean faced young man collected her details and all the requirements. He said; Account closed. Have a nice day. 3 years later. Phone rings

WATCH IT, SEE IT

Image
Him: Have you seen the latest online video? Me: Which? What's it about? Him: it's a video of a man being dismembered alive. He was practically butchered while being tortured. Me: WHAT!! That's disgusting and evil. Why would anyone do that to someone?! Him: It's on my phone. Take, Watch it. Me: No, I don't want to. Him: Why not? Me: Why would anyone want to see such a gory video? Him: It will help you overcome your fear of blood. Me: Overcome my fear of blood by watching a man being butchered alive? What wickedness have pervaded our world?

Cattle Colonies...which way Nigeria?

Image
Pic credit: vanguardngr.com I eventually became debilitated by all the arguments, counter arguments and crisis being triggered by the Fulani cattle issue and the new mandate by the Federal government for the establishment of cattle colonies  in different states of the federation.. The idea of boycotting beef so as to drive home the point that we do not want cattle colonies though reasonable will not solve this age long crisis. In view of the foregoing, I have decided to proffer solutions I feel, if applied, would on the long run put an end to this conundrum plaguing our nation. First suggestion: It is no secret that Dubai was transformed from a local desert to a global player. So I ask; why can't our government do the same in the North? Once we have a Northern region that can boast of reasonable pasturable land and green vegetation, in simple English; enough grasses for the cattle, no Fulani would bother to travel to another state with his cattle. All the Northern gover

Pleasure Partner

Image
As a child, I refused to play with any doll. Not that I did not fancy them, but I preferred to play with my peers because in my young mind; playing with dolls felt like being trapped. Pic credit: bbc.com Most people had reservations about toys until they were introduced to toys that could stimulate and please. But how do we feel about having a life size doll with artificial intelligence as a pleasure or sex partner? Simply put, these dolls are able to have conversations and do more than the usual portable erotic toy that most people have become used to over the years. With their arrival, the vibrators and dildos suddenly became kiddies toys. No matter how hard we try to speak in hushed tones about them; push the matter off the table or deny their existence, their birth has been announced and soon, judging by the spike in the number of people who have been using their portable predecessors, the mixed feelings and denial with which they are being welcomed would soon be a th
