Independence day... Our Anniversary, Our Tale

As she waited patiently for the most awaited moment of the event, memories from the past beguiled her happy mind. Memories of a handsome and intelligent young man who fell in love with a girl who was fed up with falling in and out of love. As expected, she had resisted and fought against all Harris had to offer. She had tagged him; a loose cannon, a player and a man she would never consider. His persistence, consistency and adorably kind heart finally swept her off her feet. At last, she gave up the battle, embraced his sincerity and accepted to spend eternity with the dark man with the moon in his eyes. A decision she would never regret.

Her mind went to the gossips, forecast of doom and ploys by some friends to tear them apart. Accepting Harris felt like being at war with everyone. Most of their friends desperately wanted their vile forecast to be real; "Story!! Na today? She has trust issues and he will definitely cheat on her...no be Naija man again!!" His friends whispered; "A  Naija girl love you? Guy abeg stop deceiving yourself, you can't trust these girls. She is with you cos of the money and will run once you are broke. You need multiple babes not one...spread your wings mehn..."

Ada grinned as many thoughts floated through her mind. She could not believe Nine years had passed already. Nine awesome years spent with the angel of her life and contrary to all the amebo by back biters, most of whom she had invited for the event that night,  they still yearned for each other's company. Harris' steamy messages could still set her on fire at work after nine years of being together. The man knew how to drive her insane with joy and...

"Mum, you are up."

The voice brought her back to reality. She met her son's gaze and nodded as the MC announced her again, followed by a thunderous applause from the crowd. Almost everyone got up to their feet as she slowly mounted the stage and took the mic from the MC. Ada sighed softly and turned on the mic. She had rehearsed her speech all night and was ready;

"Nothing in life is perfect but none of the imperfections should douse the fire of your love. Nine years ago, a young man captured my tender but stubborn heart and I said YES. Most of you witnessed our wedding and cheered after the exchange of vows. But what you do not know is that my husband; Harris, took out time to type, print out and frame our marital vows..."

The crowd roared with laughter as she continued;  "he then hung it up on our bedroom wall, studies them every day for the past nine years and we have been dragging that heavy wooden frame along every time we moved houses."
