The Offer - last episode

The race for greener pastures commenced several months after most of the lawyers at the firm resigned almost at the same period due to several reasons that could easily be fixed but was neglected. The workload increased with their exit but the allowances were caste on stone despite several heavy briefs and alerts we were privy to. When I saw the Email inviting me for an interview, I was both surprised and relieved. I took no chances and my hard work paid off when I came out tops. That was last month and since then nothing was heard from them until that day. The next day, around 8 am, I called Kelvin; our head of chambers to inform him of my good fortune. He was happy for me and had no objections provided I got back to my desk before noon.

The Offer - Tales From The Past

(pic credit: shutterstock) I was still a new wig at that time. As usual, it was not noon yet but my day was already very hectic and all I could think of was my hurting feet which was made worse by the anxiety of appearing alone against a senior. Ten missed calls from Kelvin. I rolled my eyes as I flipped my phone off. Why was he calling severally? He wan practice his new position as head of chamber with me abi? This guy had no chill! I thought as I made my way to the elevator. It was no  fault of mine that the court was flooded by Senior Advocates which meant all the Juniors in court would have to wait until they were all heard. I had felt like I was lucky simply because the counsel on the other side was a senior.

Sexual harassment at the work place is a pertinacious problem in Nigeria. It is unwelcomed sexual advances, behavior, suggestions, messages or remarks of a sexual nature that has the effect of offending, intimidating or humiliating the victim. They are requests for sexual favors, which could be verbal, non-verbal or physical and are usually from superiors, supervisors, co-workers, an employer or owner who undertakes or attempts to influence or influences the process of employment, promotion, training, discipline, dismissal, salary increments or other benefits of an employee or job applicant. It negatively affects the performance of ones duties and a grave violation of the victims fundamental rights to dignity and personal liberty which are guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution. If you are being sexually harassed either at or outside the office, inform your HR Officer and also consult your lawyer today. Enjoy Patricia's story...

ROMANTIC THURSDAY blackinamerica.com She twirled round on her toes before bending down halfway to roll her waist to the beat banging in her ears. With eyes closed she tried to mime the song but the lyrics turned to a low mumble. Tolu was in a world of her own and nothing  else mattered. The music was on replay and the soup would have to wait for awhile. Baba angrily breezed into the kitchen only to pause on his heels when his blazing eyes fell on well-rounded hips twisting heatedly to sounds he could not hear. His eyes darkened and his eyebrow twitched with surprise as he tried to figure out who the alluring lady with her back turned towards him was. Her moves captured his fantasy. When the spoon in her hand was turned into a microphone as she slowly twisted and  sent unimaginable waves up his spine, Baba's lips curled in a mischievous smile that turned into a sneer when it dawned on him that the dancing lady was actually Tolu. Pic credit: essence.com We met December last year through a friend. By the second week, he was inlove so I fell in love too. Their firm had downsized so he had lost his job before we met. Since I have a comfortable job and my needs are few I didn't mind. I promised to be on the lookout for vacancies. Ten days to Christmas he was off the radar. I could not reach him on his mobile number. I drove to his house and met him miserable. He had lost his phone and could not afford a befitting phone. It was way out of his financial league. I was inlove and had money to spare, so we rushed to a shop. He loved my Samsung Galaxy so I got him one that was slightly higher and more expensive than mine. He was happy again, drove me back and borrowed my car keys for the weekend. By the second week of January he was back with another tale. This time he was attacked by bandits. They cleared his house of all furniture and he could not replace because a friend he lent some money had refused to

"What happened?" Was his sharp retort. I looked at his calm face and knew we would be safe. “I don’t know how it happened, I lost my grip this morning and since then it has been dead. It wasn't intentional and I am so worried.” amsterdamnews.com Truth be told, I was more than worried. I had cancelled all my plans and have been driving around the small town in search of an expert. I was new in town, confused as to the layout, anxious and tired.  He looked me straight in the face, extended a hand towards me and I gently handed everything over to him. His charcoal burnt face squeezed into a frown as he spread them out on his examination table and stared hard as if the answers lay within. I nearly yelled; "handle my baby with care!" As I gazed at him, my mind took a trip to the genesis of my problems; my quack tech mind had assumed that creating more space would solve the various problems my phone was having. So the grand plan was to buy

Ditching Bella...

It was a Saturday and as always it was very hectic. I had a mountain of work to lower and very little time. My eyes kept darting to the wall clock as I attacked all my chores with gusto while trying not to dwell on the nagging thought of my newest discovery. I love working hard so, playing hard is definitely on my schedule. Previously, unwinding for me meant seeing movies, singing or chasing a volley ball around the court with a trainer whenever hanging out or hosting friends was not possible. Well, that was before I encountered what I now consider to be the best therapy in the world. My first session left exciting thoughts of gyrating sweaty bodies, constant laughter, rippling muscles, moans and groans of newbies trying to impress and the resonating sound of  mind blowing Naija tracks. I must say that it was really hard focusing on any other issue all through the week. I was eager for the week to wrap up and could not subdue the excitement rippling through me. Enrolling for the

Confession V

It was 3am and my heart was pounding out  of control as I took another step towards that door. My plan was simple: charge into the room, take out the enemy and rescue my bride. A surprised opponent is already half-defeated and whoever had been making all that ruckus in my mansion was obviously not expecting me to be awake. With my gun aimed at the door, I inched closer. The foamy rugs hushed my approaching footsteps. Sweat streamed down my tense face, through the soft hairs on my bare chest to the band's of my PJ. Charging into the room might put my bride at risk, was the thought that raced through my bemused mind. If whoever was making her yelp like that had not already hurt her, then rushing into the room might make them harm her. I hesitated.

Crystal Clear

She emerged from beneath the cool water with a happy smile plastered on her handsome face, nobody considered her beautiful. After a terrible day at work and having to run official errands in the hot sun, dipping her body in the water felt like being born again.  As she waded through the crystal clear water towards the edge of the swimming pool and her pile of cloths, she felt that burning desire to move into the mansion and closer to the swimming pool  rush over her yet again. Sighing softly, she knew it was time to get out of the water.  Reluctantly climbing out, she stood still for a while as the evening breeze hastily licked up the droplets of water cascading down her supple skin to form a small pool at her bare feet on the tiled deck. It was the first time she was swimming naked and it felt rejuvenating. Ignoring her cloths by the pool side she walked over to the array of lounge chairs and almost purred as she stretched out on one.  Tonia felt like dancing beneath the

Naughty!

What  do you do when you have a naughty Kid? This is the story of how my friend Abby attended an event with her child.  Junior can be very naughty. I remember someone once said its only a chain or handcuff that would hold him down. Taking him out for any occasion always ended up awry. Abby and her hubby would arm themselves with a sack load of candies to keep him preoccupied or lobby him with future treats. The boy can demolish any mountain of candy in seconds.

CONFESSIONS IV

Find CONFESSIONS III   I was still trying to reactivate my brain when the crashing sound became louder and chaotic. The sound was  from the bathroom and it suddenly dawned on me that someone had broken into my mansion! Hastily pulling off the heavy duvet, I decided to get my bride to safety before accosting whoever the intruder was. Instinctively, I reached out beside me to wake her up, but her side was empty. I was alone in bed. Nikky, it is not a secret to my friends and family, even my foes that I had a violent teenage life. At a time, I hustled hard drugs; guns; girls and ended up in a rehab center. At those times, I had intense fears and got to face many demons. But that night, the moment I felt the absence of my new bride in the semi darkness, a strange panic seized my soul. Numerous crazy questions ran through my bewildered head as I pulled out my Full Metal Pump Action Shotgun and advanced towards the bathroom door.

One Night 3

CONTINUE FROM 2 Her family had gone to every spiritual house in town all in an effort to discover what actually happened to our adorable Emilia. They have refused to give up hope.  Over the years, many Nigerians have disappeared without any trace. Dare Odufowokan, Yetunde Oladeinde and Joke Kujenya examined this worrying phenomenon in their article titled;   Missing: How Nigerians are disappearing without trace   and I want to share it with you . LOSING a relative or a loved one to death can be traumatic. It is, however, worse when such people are missing and you are not sure whether they are dead or alive. This is what happens to people who learn that those they treasure so much have vanished. All over the world, frantic efforts have been made by friends, relatives and loved ones of missing people in the past. Reported and known cases are taken seriously and followed up to ensure that they are found. A few weeks back, protesters took over streets in Islamabad, Pakista

Confessions 3

Due to popular demand, Confessions made it to the top 3. To keep up with Tim's story, find   CONFESSIONS 2 Our honeymoon night was perfect. It was at our new home, a mansion from my dad. A look at my brides face confirmed that I had lived up to her expectations and if not for exhaustion, we would have stayed awake all through the night. As I watched my celebrity wife fall asleep in my arms, I felt like a man who had won the lotto. I got married to every man’s dream wife and also remained the heir to my dad’s vast wealth. I was indeed a happy and fulfilled man. Before long, I also slept off with a heart filled with joy and a great sense of accomplishment.

Magic In The Air

I woke up today with a smile and a lovely tune in my head. By the way, I love this song by Sinach “I know who I am”, I sang it all night, probably danced to it in my sleep and this morning in the bathroom I swear my voice sounded better than Sinach’s…LOL! I beg you, do not to be confused by my wonderful mood. I didn't win MTN's fictitious Aeroplane, Sigh . Its simply that time of the year when I get possessed by a divine, awesome feeling that makes me come alive. At this time, it takes all my willpower to suppress the urge to dance to the lovely tune in my head during official functions and my usual daily routine. I always find myself nodding.

I am a Nigerian. I am Not Evil.

Dear Nikky. After reading your article on Spousal murder , I felt it imperative to add my voice to yours by boldly pointing out that SPOUSAL MURDER IS NOT A NIGERIAN THING. I am a Nigerian, a husband and a father. I have been married to my wife for seven years. In all these seven years, I am proud to say that I have never lifted a finger against her, I have been a loving, caring, stable and by God ’ s grace and in the words of my wife; “ a super-wonderful husband and father ” . That is why I take exception to articles and stories all over the web painting Nigerian men as uncaring, callous and wife-hating husbands.  E very marriage has its ups and downs but it takes a real man to keep the flag of his marriage flying. Like every married couple, w e have had our set-backs, temptations and misunderstandings but in the midst of them, we never lost sight of our love and commitment to each other. We always found a way to settle and have always pulled through together as a fam

Spousal Murder...

Image
The news of the 53 year old man who slaughtered four of his children after quarreling with his wife the previous night gave me chills for days. As I read through similar stories of senseless spousal murders and family violence by jealous husbands, bitter wives, angry in-laws as in the case of Mrs. Nkechi Onyejegbu who was brutally murdered by her husband’s brothers, many questions ran through my brain already bemused by scary and extremely graphic images. Are these stories and images real? Why are Nigerian couples killing themselves? These people no de fear God? If person no wan marry again na by force?

I want pepper!!

Image
Children are very interesting and over smart oh. That was how I went to this lovely hotel just to relax with a client and her very cute son. We placed our orders and before long they served us this very appetizing meal of Jollof rice with peppered goat meat garnished with shredded green pepper and plantain. I hardly eat. In fact, eating food is always a big challenge but the aroma and a look at the properly garnished meal woke my appetite from its deep slumber. Sharply saying my prayer, I dug in and was enjoying my meal when the lady's son yelled out "I want pepper!" The kid had being very quiet all day and had refused to smile at me and my usual pranks. Confused at his sudden outburst, I looked up and noticed he was pointing at my plate. Haba, why would he point at my plate instead of his mum's, I thought while trying to act amused and ignore that the lady's plate was almost empty. "He likes pepper." She explained and tried to feed him a
