Spousal Murder...

The news of the 53 year old man who slaughtered four of his children after quarreling with his wife the previous night gave me chills for days. As I read through similar stories of senseless spousal murders and family violence by jealous husbands, bitter wives, angry in-laws as in the case of Mrs. Nkechi Onyejegbu who was brutally murdered by her husband’s brothers, many questions ran through my brain already bemused by scary and extremely graphic images. Are these stories and images real? Why are Nigerian couples killing themselves? These people no de fear God? If person no wan marry again na by force?

It’s hard to fathom a cogent reason for all these senseless killings. This wave of wife and children massacre that has possessed many Nigerian men both at home and in the diaspora is very disturbing, totally unacceptable and un-African. Please do not try to remind me of the Nigerian woman; Temitope Adebamiro who killed her husband in Delware, for sleeping with her sister because it is definitely not a competition. Termination of any human life at will is a grievous and heinous offense, it is intolerable and a decline of our once esteemed high moral standard.
African values used to be the strong pillars of our society but sadly, these values are slowly being
eroded.

Termination, Extermination or Elimination of any person or persons by any spouse, parent or group of people either out of rage, for fun, rituals, wealth, power or as a deterrence should be discouraged by communities, chieftains, the government and all religious institutions. I strongly believe in human dignity and all Nigerians must refuse to accept the offense of murder as a way of settling grievances.

  1. The trend is becoming worrisome. I have been following the various cases and from my studies, it is obvious something is wrong with the Marriage system. All these couples were once inlove and after 5 or 10 years of living together and birthing children, they turned into bitter enemies. This leaves one with a lot of questions about monogamy and our tradition of limiting both men and women to one partner for life.

  2. I feel it has nothing to dod with monogamy but discipline, home training and the events happening all over the world. we see blood on the news, on our streets everyday and poor economy is not helping us. it is not an excuse, but trust human beings are more receptive of evil than good.

  3. In every marriage, relationshiop, friendship or any form of union, the mutual ability between couples is held by one. In a situation where one who holds this mutual ability withdraws it, then a collapse occurs. Big question is, why withdraw that which has kept the union going?

  4. I appreciate all your comments.

Iheanyi Amazue it is supposed to be a union of two people who are willing to invest in the relationship. the mutual ability (i really don't know what you mean by that) should not be held by one.
