At this point, I should paint a vivid picture of my so-called promotion. Almost every junior staff envied my new position, but that's because they were ignorant of what it entailed. If they knew the reality, they wouldn’t have. It was nothing more than a glorified title—extra responsibility with no additional benefits. Alongside my usual junior staff duties, my workload doubled. Also, in the absence of the manager and his assistant, I was left in charge of our exclusive VVIP bar—the crown jewel of the establishment.

I know it's not the Valentine Season but permit me to share my story with you. Feel free to share it on your blog, it's fine with me.  I have always categorized people into different strata. At the top are those born with what I call diamond spoons—the privileged, the untouchable, those living the glam life. Then there are people like me who are occupying the lowest rung of the social ladder. People struggling to find even a broken spoon. Judging by where I found myself at birth, it's obvious I had no say in the creation matter and didn’t get to choose my parents or the family I was born into. Wait a minute, did I say parents? Well, I was abandoned infront of an orphanage by an unknown person. So my first steps were taken within the walls of the orphanage home. As a child, I was oblivious of my unfortunate situation. However, the moment I got registered in school, the reality of my disability hit home. I was different. The initial confusion of why I had not parents like o...

After years of navigating life’s hurdles, my brilliance and exceptional good behavior got me a scholarship from one of the many sponsors of the orphanage. I eventually graduated from a government owned university. That was the best day of my life. My NYSC year came and I became a government pikin (child). It was my first time of a heavy credit alert and I made sure all my siblings got a new gift. But I knew service year would soon end which means, no more allowances. I was worried. I needed to get a job ASAP.

Did you know that every Christmas season, the streets of Germany come alive with open-air markets known as Christkindlmarkt (the little city of wood and cloth)? These historical markets usually adorn the beautiful market squares of cities only during the Advent Season and end on the Christmas eve in most cities. Although this tradition dates back to the middle ages, today they still resonate the  past.
