Ripples E.1
Bam Bam hurriedly pulled on her shoes, got down from the car and rushed to the rear to confirm her fears. Her eyes widened as the reality hit her. Yes she was right. The wide dent on her bumper sent shock waves down her spine.
"My car!"
She gasped wishing her eyes were deceiving her.
"Woow! I'm very sorry madam."
A masculine voice said behind her. Bam Bam turned to meet the gaze of a ruffled middle aged man who looked like he had not slept in days. She noticed his unkempt look as her brain tried to calculate his net worth.
"You are sorry? You drove into my car and you are sorry? Are you blind or drunk? What were you thinking?!"
"Sorry ma. It wasn't intentional. I don't even know how this happened."
He scratched his wild looking hair and Bam Bam took a step away from him. The man looked crazy and his old car begged for maintenance. She looked around for help but the few cars plying the lonely route only sped past without stopping.
"Listen, I don't need your sorry. Sorry won't fix my car so just call your mechanic or I call the police!"
"I have never been involved in an accident before. I am very sorry madam."
"I don't care!" Bam Bam shouted at him. The man gave her a weird look and took a step backwards. He looked tipsy or suffering from some insanity symptoms she could not fathom.
"It's only a bumper and it's not like anyone died." He muttered.
"Excuse me! A car I just bought two months ago! Do you know how much this car cost me? Please don't even get me more angry than I am."
"Listen I agree it's my fault but you don't have to shout at me! As for my mechanic it's late already so we just have to look for a rope or something to hold the bumper in place till tomorrow."
Kene explained while battling to keep his eyes open. He rubbed them and yawned. The evening weather was becoming chilly and he sensed it might rain. He suddenly missed his warm bed with Ladi in it.
"Are you sleeping off?!"
The woman's scream got him back to reality. Whoever the screeching lady was he needed to get away from her. He took in her expensive jewelry and outfit and yawned again. She looked like all those rich and spoilt brats with a lorry load of servants running around them.
You need to find a strong rope, kene commanded his brain to ditch analyzing the fuming woman and turned back to his car.
Bam Bam felt like crying. Why was this happening to her, she thought as she watched the man walk off towards his dirty, worn out car. She watched him delve into his boot and eventually emerge with a long blue rope. He walked towards her arms extended.
"Excuse me! There's no way I'm letting you put that on my car. No way!" A drop of rain landed on her nose as lightening flashed.
"Excuse you! Can't you see it's about to rain? If you don't let me hold that bumper up I will leave you on this lonely road and go home! What is even wrong with you sef? Are you the first person to get her car smashed into? Biko akpasukwana mu iwe this night, just don't piss me off!"
"Are you abusing me? You must be very stupid! You have ruined my evening and you are here talking gibberish. If you don't know how to drive get both yourself and that rickety car off the road!"
Just then the sky opened and heavy torrents descended. Bam Bam screamed, shielding her hair, she ran for the safety of her car. She jumped in and closed the door only to hear the passengers door bang shot. She whirled round and saw the crazy man shaking rain off his shirt inside her car. Bam Bam screamed. A startled Kene turned towards her;
"What are you doing? Are you insane? Get out of my car!"
"What? In this rain? No way!"
"Get out! Get out! This is all your fault! Go to your car you insane man!" Bam Bam pushed and hit him with her handbag.
"You're joking right? My car is leaking and I'm not going anywhere oh. Besides if you had let me tie up your bumper we would have left this place before the rain. Now you want to chase me out in the rain. Why are you this wicked? Stop hitting me joor!"
"Wicked? Chineke! So it's my fault your car is leaking abi? See me see this crazy man oh. No try me this evening. Just get out! Si na my car rituo this minute! I said get down from my car or I will teach you a lesson you will never forget!"
Kene's mouth dropped open as he turned to stare at the lady beside him. Her control of the local Igbo dialect left him speechless.
