AFLOAT SEASON 2 Ep. 5

Do the little things. In the future when you look back, they'd have made the greatest change.

Damn! She was indeed beautiful. He had thought her social media pictures were photo-shopped but she had proven him wrong. Despite the tears and traumatic events of the night she still looked stunning, but far from the happy girl he enjoyed starring at her pictures every night ever since he got her details for the job and started trailing her on social media.

Too bad some higher powers needed her to be delivered, Stanley thought with a slight pang of pity. He dropped her arm and tried to focus on retying her with the rope they had stashed in the room.

“Please ca- can I get some water...”

Her whisper doused the thoughts racing through his mind and made him look up. He noticed her eyes were now open but averted; she probably didn’t want to see his vile face. Who would blame her when he could hardly look at his own reflection in the mirror these days.

The only bottle of  water he had was in the car which was concealed in the bushes but there was no way he was leaving her alone to go get it and he was not going to tell her that either. In fact, he was not in the mood for small talks especially not with a girl whose fate had been determined. He managed to secure her firmly and stood up straight;

“This is the last time I will warn you, if you don't stop talking, I will push this gag inside your mouth.”

He walked over to the sealed off window and stashed the rope in his hands underneath the battered table standing next to it, all the while keeping his eyes affixed on the table that had seen better years as he tried to get his emotions under control.

The order was to deliver her at midnight alive and UNTOUCHED and nothing would stop their plans. Maurice expected him to see this deal through and there was no way he was going to let his fickle emotions and sudden burst of hormones get in the way of the millions they were expecting. Besides it was too late to back out. He knew reneging on the deal meant he would be a dead man and he was not ready to die for any woman. It won't happen; Stanley thought as he hardened his heart against the annoying emotions threatening to weaken his resolve.

He scrutinized his wristwatch and compared the hours with that of his phone. The minutes seemed to be on slow motion mode and he suddenly wished he could take her to the agreed venue before midnight.

Dapper tried to twist her hands but the sudden pain that tore through her arm warned her to stop. She felt helpless and scared out of her wits. Several thoughts raced through her tired mind; thoughts of her family, friends and how her mom would never be the same if anything happened to her and at that moment she wished she had never taken that short route. If only she could turn back the hands of time.

“Sir...please sir I want to go home... I - I promise, I will not t-tell anyone about you..." She paused briefly to catch her breath and continued; "my family... we- we will give you whatever you want... I've never hurt anyone before...please sir”

Dapper pleaded as her body shook with her unabating tears and trepidation. Stanley turned murderous eyes on the quivering girl as if she had struck him across the face. Memories he had fervently fought to bury broke free of their strong barriers and rushed to the surface. A gasp escaped from his lips as the pain reignited and it felt like he was down there again. He was also innocent but nobody cared to believe him. NOBODY!

He grabbed the gag and was about heading towards Dapper when his phone vibrated. Stanley stopped and glared at the screen.
