Love hurts
We are starting this season with Hilda's story...sit back, put up your feet and enjoy it...
I will never forget 2013 Val's day.
Back then, I was running my Masters degree program and had to take some days off due to my exams. It was Val's day and I can recall I had gone for my exams in the morning. From the hall I stopped over for a brief meeting before heading off to handle other personal errands. It was a very hectic day for me, but I was early for our appointment and had somehow managed to buy him a gift for our anniversary. It was neatly wrapped by me as the shop attendant could not do it the way I wanted it done. Safely placing it in a large gift bag I left for the garden we had scheduled to meet. We had been there severally so I settled into our usual lawn bench and placed the gift bag and my handbag next to me. The weather was spectacular.
Brendan and I had met at an official function in 2011 on Valentine's day. I was in a good mood and my new gorgeous red dress was eye-catching. I knew I was looking sexy in that dress and I must confess that I loved it when eyes lingered on and admired me. My mood was infectious and before long the stiff looking Brendan who sat next to me during the Seminar caught the happy bug. During the tea break, we discussed many topics and at the end of the seminar, we did not want to lose sight of each other. Numbers were exchanged and we never stopped talking.
It was love at second, probably third sight and we adored each other. Our bond grew and strengthened. He always wanted the best for me and was the reason I opted to start my masters degree program. Brendan was a pillar in my life although he would always insist I was the pillar in his life.
Getting away from work to celebrate our anniversary together was his idea and I didn't mind. It was supposed to be our second anniversary and knowing how tight his schedule could be, I guessed he would be slightly late.
I was deeply engrossed in the textbook I was reading that I lost track of time. He was two hours late and I was hungry. I became worried and tried to call him but his line was busy, so I waited for him to return my call. Before long, he did...
