Time Bomb

Unemployment, Under–employment, Population Explosion, Inadequate Health Care, Terrorism, Religious and Ethnic conflicts, Environmental Degradation and a bleak future are some of the broadening complications plaguing my dear country.

Naive Nigerians fell for their flagrant campaign promises to finally lay to rest our lingering woes. I nearly got caught up in the web, nearly danced to the chant. The initial gragra got me testifying that our sleeping giant has finally woken up. I was about singing "things are getting better" only for us to topple into the worst Economic Recession we have ever witnessed as a democratic nation.

It goes without saying that our previous leaders lost their grip on the reins of this nation,  but the recent accusation and counter- accusation of budget padding has resucitated the dwindling doubts of various Nigerians. Instead of positive and reliable solutions as promised, we have witnessed and are still witnessing haphazard and chaotic attempts to revitalize our comatose nation. I keep wondering if this National Assembly will ever settle down to their responsibilities? When will they actually solve our litany of problems and set about fulfilling the promises they made to their constituencies? What is happening to the change this government promised the people of Nigeria?

Why do we always end up with leaders who are less concerned with National Development,  leaders who lack the desire to establish a structure that would ensure the implementation of feasible plans for this nation? Why do Nigerians prefer to pray and suffer instead of taking the right steps to reclaim our nation, to expedite the entrenchment of a structure that would ensure accountability, productivity and competence? Is this administration headed in the same direction as the previous and will they ever increase their administrative pace? Who will redeem our beloved nation?

Indeed, we are sitting on a time bomb and although I have been told that change takes time, I strongly believe that it is time for us to stop abandoning our salvation to fate. Nigerians must pledge to serve this Nation with all our strength and uphold her Honor and Glory. The future of our beloved nation is in our hands.
