It started with the psychological abuse, then one day, he lost his mind and struck her. That was when the fights began. The bruises lefts lesions that could last a lifetime on her supple skin. She was running out of tricks in her bid to conceal them from probing eyes. It was only two years, but the wedding bliss was already a figment. It felt like a strange dream made worse by the endless trauma. The sensual moans of two hearts beating as one was lost to the wails of battering and unabashed altercations. She knew it was time to move on but moving out was not an option. Reality check; she had no where to go, no steady flow of income and would never leave her cub behind for his array of whores. eibeila.com But weeks of fighting toughened her tender skin. Her heart had lost it's luster. She gradually but definitely became hardened. When he laid a hand on her cub, she lost control of her meekness and he got stitches near his left eye. That day, the abuse ended and th

My Mumu Don Do...

Image
Pic credit: essence.com We met December last year through a friend. By the second week, he was inlove so I fell in love too. Their firm had downsized so he had lost his job before we met. Since I have a comfortable job and my needs are few I didn't mind. I promised to be on the lookout for vacancies. Ten days to Christmas he was off the radar. I could not reach him on his mobile number. I drove to his house and met him miserable. He had lost his phone and could not afford a befitting phone. It was way out of his financial league. I was inlove and had money to spare, so we rushed to a shop. He loved my Samsung Galaxy so I got him one that was slightly higher and more expensive than mine. He was happy again, drove me back and borrowed my car keys for the weekend. By the second week of January he was back with another tale. This time he was attacked by bandits. They cleared his house of all furniture and he could not replace because a friend he lent some money had refused to

The Word Today

Daily Reading for Sunday February 11, 2018 Reading 1 - Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46 Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 32:1-2, 5, 11 Reading 2 - First Corinthians 10:31--11:1 Gospel, Mark 1:40-45 Pic by robertawinterinstitute.org The first reading opens our eyes to the infectious skin disease called Leprosy and God's instructions to Moses and Aaron on how to handle those identified to be leprous. They were examined by the Priest, isolated and only permitted to return to the community upon the performance of a purification rite. They were dreaded. The gospel is about the story of the Leper who approached Jesus for healing instead of going to the Priest and how Jesus out of pity; touched, healed and directed him to comply with the Law by showing himself to the priest so as to offer what Moses commanded for the cleansing. It exposed us to the depth of Jesus' compassion and the manifestation of His healing power. Unlike in the old testament where people with Leprosy were isolate

Love Hurts 2

pxhere.com The voice over the phone line was strange. He was yelling but I could make out his words. He had ordered me to head towards the car park to save the owner of the phone. I cannot remember what happened next, but I found myself running towards the parking lot at an alarming speed, barefoot with my phone still in my grip . I  noticed the crowd of onlookers when I had gotten closer. By the time I got close enough to peer at whatever they were staring at with obvious dread, I was gasping for air . It was hard, but I managed to shove and push my way to the center of the commotion. That was when I saw him.

Sunday Reading - Summary

Image
Sunday February 4, 2018 Reading 1: Job  7:1-4, 6-7 Responsorial Psalm,  Psalms 147:1-2, 3-4, 5-6 Reading 2:  First Corinthians 9:16-19, 22-23 Gospel:  Mark 1:29-39 Job spoke, saying: Is not man’s life on earth a drudgery?   My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle; they come to an end without hope.  Remember that my life is like the wind; I shall not see happiness again. Job 7:1, 6-7 The funny thing is, as soon as that reading is concluded at Mass, the entire congregation will respond, “Thanks be to God!”  Really?  Is this reading worth thanking God for?  Do we really want to thank God for an expression of such pain?  We most certainly do. Job was clearly expressing feelings that we all face at times. He speaks of a sleepless night.  Feelings of a loss of hope.  Months of misery.  Et cetera.  Hopefully these feelings are not an everyday occurrence.  But they are real and everyone experiences them at times.

Years After The Vows...

REAL STORY FROM A FAN...GOT ME LAUGHING ALL NIGHT. ENJOY IT For me, anybody that says; being pregnant is normal for women and only the first baby is usually tough for a young mother should be re-evaluated. pic credit; joveline.wordpress.com It was my second baby and it felt like my body was falling apart. My waist was on fire, my nostrils were leaking and my husband and I always spent the better part of every night trying to get me comfortable enough to fall asleep. My son had gotten tired of being snapped at for diving into our bed and upsetting mummy and his sister, so his room had become his best refuge. That morning, I woke up and my body refused to listen to the alarm in my head. I tried to encourage myself to adhere to my usual schedule of waking up early, making breakfast while waiting for my hubby and our son to roll  out of bed, they loved having breakfast in their PJ's; but my bloated body refused to obey the simple command. To make matters worse, it was a cold m

Cattle Colonies...which way Nigeria?

Image
Pic credit: vanguardngr.com I eventually became debilitated by all the arguments, counter arguments and crisis being triggered by the Fulani cattle issue and the new mandate by the Federal government for the establishment of cattle colonies  in different states of the federation.. The idea of boycotting beef so as to drive home the point that we do not want cattle colonies though reasonable will not solve this age long crisis. In view of the foregoing, I have decided to proffer solutions I feel, if applied, would on the long run put an end to this conundrum plaguing our nation. First suggestion: It is no secret that Dubai was transformed from a local desert to a global player. So I ask; why can't our government do the same in the North? Once we have a Northern region that can boast of reasonable pasturable land and green vegetation, in simple English; enough grasses for the cattle, no Fulani would bother to travel to another state with his cattle. All the Northern gover

Pleasure Partner

As a child, I refused to play with any doll. Not that I did not fancy them, but I preferred to play with my peers because in my young mind; playing with dolls felt like being trapped. Pic credit: bbc.com Most people had reservations about toys until they were introduced to toys that could stimulate and please. But how do we feel about having a life size doll with artificial intelligence as a pleasure or sex partner? Simply put, these dolls are able to have conversations and do more than the usual portable erotic toy that most people have become used to over the years. With their arrival, the vibrators and dildos suddenly became kiddies toys. No matter how hard we try to speak in hushed tones about them; push the matter off the table or deny their existence, their birth has been announced and soon, judging by the spike in the number of people who have been using their portable predecessors, the mixed feelings and denial with which they are being welcomed would soon be a th

Pic credit: thecathedrallagos.org Daily Reading for Sunday January 21, 2018 Reading 1- Jonah 3:1-5, 10 Reading 2- First Corinthians 7:29-31 Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 25:4-5, 6-7, 8-9 Gospel- Mark 1:14-20 Today, we are reminded that the time is short and the kingdom of God is at hand. Jonah upon hearing the word of the Lord went to Nineveh and cried against that city. The people heard his words and believed God. They turned from their sins and God forgave them. Saint Paul in the Second reading, like Jonah, continued that cry. He reminds us that the form of this world is passing away and that the appointed time has grown very short.
