Ripples E. 4

[Catch up on- Ripples E.3]

Ominous silence lingered as the rain poured down, unrelenting. They could hear the wind whistling, goading the heavy torrents hitting the roof of the car like children rehearsing their unversed drumming skills. Fierce lightening marked the skies, revealing other cars parked along the wet road. The defeaning sound of thunder tore through the tangible silence, roaring as if the heavens were angry at the earth.

Kene noticed the Ice queen flinch beside him. His fingers itched to grab her stiff body,  to comfort and  keep her safe from the storm. But he knew that would only result in him being tossed out in the rain. He quickly discarded that thought and tried to work up a tune in his head with the rhythm of the fierce rains and the clicking sound of the hazard light she had turned on to warn any approaching vehicle. Smart move, he acknowledged, but her battery would end up being drained if the rain persisted for a long time.

Angel Kene. How e take concern you? A familiar voice in his head queried.

His stomach chose that moment to growl in displeasure, reminding him that his last meal was the previous night when he was the DJ at his friends birthday party. He loved music and hoped to release a hit track someday. Instinctively turning, he caught the Ice lady's murderous eyes on him. Her perfect face mirrored her fury.

Why is she angry now? So my stomach can't even make a little noise in her car? What would she do if I farted? Kene found the thought amusing and a giggle escaped his thick lips.

"What's funny?"

"Nothing. Ehmmm actually I've been wondering if you happen to have any food or snacks in this your fine car. You know all those sweet things women like eating? I'm hungry. I haven't eaten all day."

Ladi and his sister always had endless supply of snacks or biscuits on them. They never failed to indulge their sweet tooth while still complaining about gaining weight. He would never understand women. Kene smirked.

Bam Bam glared at the man grinning at her from the passengers seat. The grin was instantly wiped off his face when he met her fiery eyes.

It's either he is the worst kidnapper or just likes playing the fool; Bam bam thought almost amused at him asking her for FOOD?  His small mind must have concluded she was a food vendor! She found the thought hilarious and could not suppress the laughter that tore through her lips and rocked her whole body. A comical image of her selling food played through her mind and she bent forward, grabbing her stomach as more laughter escaped her. Crazy's eyes rounded with surprise as she wiped tears from her eyes. Bam Bam shook her head barely managing to pull herself together. She could not remember the last time she ever laughed like that. Crazy just scored some major points.

She took a deep breath and was getting ready to focus on the reports she had been reading up on her iPad when it suddenly dawned on her that Crazy had no clue of her identity. He was oblivious to the fact that he was sitting with the two time winner of the African Youngest Entrepreneur award. Her face was currently gracing all the global and local media news and popular business magazines. It was impossible for her to remain anonymous with the publicity. Her overprotective dad had at a point proposed hiring bodyguards to keep her safe but she loved her freedom too much and had told him the publicity phase would soon pass. However, after managing to escape a group of young people who had plagued her office for a tour and meet with the CEO that morning, she wasn't so sure anymore.

Bam Bam tried not to grin widely at the thought of not being recognized and hounded for the first time in a very long time.

Crazy must have been living in a cave all his life. Thank God he remembered to take his bath, at least there was no foul smell in her car, yet. Her heart almost melted with pity as he resumed humming a discordant tune which she, surprisingly, did not  find irritating. She eyed him cautiously and tried to picture him without the bushy beard concealing part of his face and in a customized suit tailor made for him. After a while she gave up. It felt like imagining her cat roaring like a lion. A look at his wild hair sticking out like short dreadlocks and his rumpled tight fitting clothes that had seen better years told her to maintain her distance and wipe all friendly thoughts from her head.

"Sorry I asked."

Kene muttered, trying to ignore that she had just laughed at him. He forced himself not to think about the effect her laughter had on him; gosh the woman could ruin a man with her laughter. He pulled his eyes away from her although he could sense her eyes running over him as if he was a mental case and had horns sticking out of his head. She was obviously snobbish, frustrating, infuriating, cold hearted ...and beautiful, his over active brain pointed out.

She's not my type. He argued with himself. You mean she is beyond your usual league? That annoying voice in his head taunted.

Kene frowned ruefully. Who needs a spoiled, rich, snobbish lady? He needed to get out of the car and back to his home studio, far away from the woman and whatever magic she was conjuring. If only the blasted rain would ease off for a minute

Kene rested his forehead on the cold window and frowned at the persistent downpour outside.
