December to Remember 8

"Sign the document unless you don't want your freedom again?"

"You have no right to assault my client! What is wrong with you?"

Her client? Freedom? What were they talking about?

I slowly turned my head to look at the lady standing next to Seun but my eyes lingered on his face — he had a couple of bruises — thanks to me. Blinking rapidly I focused on the lady instead. She was obviously angry with the policeofficer

Whose freedom? I asked myself, still unable to utter a word.

They were all staring at me, so I felt a sudden need to say something. I tried to clear my throat but ended up coughing violently. Seun dashed back, covering his nose as if I had Covid 19. He flung an envelope at me and literally ran from the ward.

The lady picked up the envelope, waited for me to calm down before pulling the only chair in the room closer to my bed.

She turned out to be one of our hotel's legal reps. She clearly explained my rights and the terms of their settlement with Seun and his family. It turned out that the hotel, armed with several videos of Seun serially assaulting our staff, was ready to sue him and go public. That was when Seun's father stepped in. His family didn't want the negative publicity to taint his future political ambitions so the charges against me were dropped.

At that moment, although I was too exhausted to cry, the joy I felt was overwhelming.

The envelope Seun left contained a check. Yes, I and the staff I was defending were handsomely compensated!

How much was it? Well all I can say is that the figure made me faint again and when I recovered, I cried and sang praises for hours. The other patients joined in and the ward became a mini crusade ground when some people started speaking in tongues.

Anyway, to cut this long story short, I eventually got to tick vacation to Obudu Cattle Ranch off my bucket list after my brief stop over at the orphanage to celebrate Christmas with my large and still growing family. I made sure the kids had the best Christmas celebration since I could afford it.

My levels changed and I resigned from my job after I eventually started a small business of my own.

Sorry my story took a long time but yeah, it was a December to Remember and one I would never forget in a hurry because of the lessons learned.
