No Money No Christmas 1
It is no longer news that I love the Christmas Season. The news is that I detest how we have monetized the celebration in Nigeria.
When I was a kid, Christmas meant gifts, parties, games, fun and dance competitions and I always won all the dance competitions, you wan try? Christmas parties were a must and the best part was getting a wrapped package from Father Christmas or Santa, if you wish.
The gifts were always more than enough. The perk was having to sit on the lap of this funny looking Father Christmas with the fake laughter. We knew the guy behind the white mask was dark but hey it was Christmas and we didn't care.
Did I mention that back then, Christmas parties were for FREE! Yes, our parents never paid a dime for us to attend. But sadly, things are different now.
It is now normal for Parents to pay exorbitant fees for their kids to attend Christmas parties even those organized by media houses which used to be a major attraction for most if not all parents. In other words if you no get money then No party for your kids unless na Church party or you are in a less privileged home.
This trend is distasteful and should not be promoted. What happened to the good old Christmas spirit?
By the way Father Christmas or Santa Clause must not be an oyibo. It is time for us to stop dressing up our handsome men in white and fake Christmas costumes. Let us try to adopt black Santa abeg.

Funny how the world has changed. People care more about what they would gain. But some parties are still for free oh. Besides who needs a party most parents make sure their kids have so much fun, more fun than they would have at any party.
