Afloat Season 3 E. 11

At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet.

Maitama, Abuja (Alex's Mansion) -

David settled into the comfortable leather sofa and took a sip of his drink as his gaze took in the lavishly furnished living room. The cool air seeping in from the vents on the walls relaxed his frayed nerves. The maid must have turned on the AC the moment they arrived; he guessed. Very diligent woman, David thought as he gulped down his drink and grinned with satisfaction.

Glancing at the wall clock, he realized it was ten minutes to midnight. He wondered if Tricia had slept off as his mind slowly went over the events of the evening.

Crazy but beautiful woman. She should be asleep by now; he thought with a slight frown as he placed the bottle and his cup on the side stool before unbuttoning his shirt halfway.

The peaceful and quiet atmosphere soothed and pulled on the strings of his private thoughts and his hazy alcohol fuelled thoughts weakened against his firm hold on thoughts he had securely locked away. David's shoulders sagged as a wave of regret washed over him. Living a lie was indeed exhausting.

He had spent the whole night fighting with Tricia when all he craved was her attention.

David laughed out quietly and kicked off his shoes before taking another sip of his drink. He could feel the alcohol running through his veins inflaming his quiescent passion. He never asked for this. He would never steal from Alex but Tricia was everything he ever wanted in a woman and her questions that evening had nearly paralyzed him. He had thought she had seen through his barriers.

David scratched his twisted hairstyle fiercely as if it could stop his brain from recalling how she looked tonight. Her intentionally arousing outfit and exceptional beauty almost made him lose control of his sanity even though he knew she would not have bothered with dressing to impress if she had known Alex was not going to be around. He had to admit to himself that acting nonchalant whilst he burned was the worst torture he had ever endured.

Alex was like a brother and he would gladly fight anyone for him but his anger at the hotel was not rooted in his intrinsic desire to protect Alex's interest. He was only furious because Tricia repeatedly mentioned Alex's name all through the night while he sat across from her hoping she would actually see him. He even spent his hard earned money to buy Alex's expensive cologne just for her to act as if he was repulsive.

David sighed with defeat as it finally dawned on him that he was going to lose his mind either to the frustrating cold baths that were no longer easing his desires or to the dreams plaguing him every night. Dreams of her in his arms writhing with unrestrained passion...
