German Christmas Market Experience

Did you know that every Christmas season, the streets of Germany come alive with open-air markets known as Christkindlmarkt (the little city of wood and cloth)? These historical markets usually adorn the beautiful market squares of cities only during the Advent Season and end on the Christmas eve in most cities. Although this tradition dates back to the middle ages, today they still resonate the  past.
Having heard so much and read through intriguing articles about these remarkable markets, NIB decided to visit one of the markets so as to experience this historical tradition firsthand. For our purpose we settled on the city of Nuremberg which is renowned for having one of the oldest and most famous markets in the world.

After a brief tour of the city, we arrived at the market square with many tourists whose Christmas moods were not dampened by the relentless rains. Strolling through the market mesmerized us with magical feelings. Seeing the wooden stalls, twinkling lights, nativity scenes, hand-carved ornaments such as the Rauschgol angels certainly felt like being in a medieval fairytale. The best part of the tour was mingling with the crowd of happy locals and tourists, drinking a hot mug of glühwein (mulled wine), savouring the Gebranntemandeln (candied almonds), Ginger bread and Bratwurst (German sausage) for the first time.

Indeed, it was an amazing experience which NIB has decided to share with you. To enjoy the sights with us tap on the video below. Happy viewing 😊
