Darkness E. 7

"I am just tired but I will be fine. Don't worry too much.”

Mercy grabbed the extra bottle of water on the table and gulped down most of it. That was her third bottle that night and she still felt unbelievably thirsty. Licking the water off her lips, she looked up to catch Ben's eyes on her. His eyes darted from her full lips to her partly touched dinner and back to her lips. She could guess what was going through his mind. Her body tingled in response. Ben pushed his plate away and stood up.

"Too tired to eat?"

He queried, reached for her hand and pulled her up.  She readily went to him and her worries flew out of her head the moment she felt his warm body against hers. His eyes riverted on her, unblinking, burning with the same emotions that had left her confused all day.

"Sit. I will feed you."

She watched him take her seat and gesture at his knee. Mercy smiled. She wanted to  resist, to insist that she could take care of herself but something held her back. Ben was definitely acting strange.

Her Ben was utterly handsome, smart, reliable and loyal. He could be funny; if he really tried hard enough. He loved being independent and despite being the only heir of a billionaire father, had singlehandedly, without daddy's help, established from scratch, a successful global Tech company. He was inlove with her, yes, but Ben would never wear his emotions or love for her on his sleeves. Infact he preferred playing his video games or working with his tech team to anything that had to do with expressing emotions. Sometimes she could not help wondering if he ever liked making love. For him it felt like a chore or a waste of time.

Mercy's brow creased as she stared at him. Someone must have swapped her man while she slept. He was all touchy and cuddly and she intended to enjoy this new improved Ben for as long as possible.

She slid into his lap and giggled when his hand went to her waist and he pulled her closer. She nestled against him.

"Talk to me baby. What's wrong. It's unlike you to toy with your dinner."

"I am still getting those weird flashes. I know what you said, but baby I still can't shake off this bizarre feeling and how is it that no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to remember anything from yesterday... don't you think that's weird?"

Mercy felt Ben tense against her.
