Is This Our Nigeria?

Click on Our Nigeria to resume...

At this point I think I should mention that this article is absolutely not aimed at igniting immured emotions. It is not even about the havoc the war wrecked on Nigerians and the Eastern Region in particular, the dashed dreams, the alleged genocide and massacre of innocent souls or the non-prosecution of those involved due to their caliber in the society.

It is neither about the brazen pillaging of our collective wealth by several politicians in different guises, the overwhelming statistics of unfulfilled and abandoned political promises, the importunate betrayal and rapacious greed of most government officials; the approval and implementation of unworkable and fraudulent political and economic policies; nor is it about the resultant recession, the flagrant display of embezzled funds which impelled the get rich quick or die trying trend ravaging our nation today and in turn led to the recourse to criminality by most of our young leaders of tomorrow who are desperately embracing the cold hands of death in their pursuit of greener pastures in strange places.

Hey, I will not lament over the various politically motivated crises, religious wrangle, deep rooted insecurity, the carnage and increasing number of displaced persons. Besides, who lamenting eppOur years of wailing have always fallen and still falls on the  deaf ears of previously young and recently old statesmen.

Did I hear you say; Ahha, the opposition party is at work here? LOL! Take things easy because Nikky is not a politician. I still love fashion and stories a lot. Trust me, this is not a politically motivated article.

It is basically the sincere reflections of a compatriot who loves her country and is neither trying to resurrect vaguely concealed lacerations nor interested in inflicting superfluous pains to worsen our already excruciating penury.

In simple words, I am expressing my indubitable disappointment at any or all our leaders  (from the lowest to the highest ranking) who in any way and at any period answered the revered call to serve this great nation selfishly instead selflessly and thereby neglected to lead us with Respect, Foresight, Commitment, Integrity, Accountability, Cohesiveness, Love, Compassion and all the vital qualities of a remarkable leader. For failing us, we recommend that they and their stooges be held accountable for our depressing underdevelopment and the irreparable loss of millions of lives in this our tumultuous journey to nationhood. Sadly, this is just me musing, you reading with rapt attention and eventually, no action being taken on the long run by anyone.

It has gradually dawned on most of us that this darkness we were plunged into since the early 1970s might be interminable. Indeed, I still do not see any flicker of hope or restitution from this despair and retinue of economic conundrum that has continued to dissipate our unity and hinder the needed socio-economic transformation.

Notwithstanding, I am still emboldened by my ingrained Naija spirit or daydreams (if u wish) to ask: Who can save Nigeria? Can Nigerians, despite all the crippling legislations, policies and profundity of corruption, rise up to our collective responsibility of holding our leaders (past and Present) accountable? Can this nation be great again or will our despondency be eternal?

I rest my case...
