AFLOAT SEASON 1 Ep. 2
“We forget to live today when we keep fretting about tomorrow” Nikky

“Again! From the top!"
Mabel shrieked.
Exhausted was an understatement. Beads of perspiration ran down my face and underarms as I tried to catch my breath. The AC unit was obviously overworked as it was now making a weeping sound and spewing hot air at us.
Two weeks ago, if anyone had revealed to me that dancing and prepping for the Christmas carnival would end up becoming a torture chamber, maybe I would have fled instead of jumping with glee at being accepted as their last member.
"IRENE! Get your butt off the floor. I don’t have all day!" Mabel yelled out, snapping me back to reality.
I turned in time to see Irene, our principal dancer dragging her weary limbs off the dance floor where she was squatting down after several gruelling hours of repeating the same routine. Her vibrant personality and glowing beauty had won her the lead title and the envy of some of the members. She had mastered all the moves and was living up to her title but Mabel expected perfection and nothing less. The woman was a tyrant!
I grunted while other members of our troupe groaned and whispered as they stretched their limbs.
It was my second week with the group, but I was already having second thoughts. Don't get me wrong, I love dancing but my bones were beginning to complain and quake from the endless rehearsals.
However, looking back, I must wholeheartedly agree that the membership happened at the right moment. The distraction was enought to get my mind off the depressing thoughts that were becoming my companion, thoughts of how I was a failure and jobless one year after my Youth service.
My passing out parade was lit for me. Pictures of me flaunting my certificate graced all my social media handles. I saw my life starting. My dream of owning a clothing line would finally become a reality. Dapper was going to do what she had always wanted.
My plan was perfect. I had saved almost all my allowances by starving myself just to make sure I could add to whatever my Dad would support me with.
I had everything covered. Infact I was envisioning celebrities walking the red carpet in my brands. The sketches on my laptop would shake the international community and I was eager to take on the world.
Well, that was until life happened to me...
